Ups and Downs

Being a scout leader is amazing. Seriously. When it goes right there is simply nothing like it. When the big camp or expedition comes off after years of planning. When the shy timid kid achieves something that they never dreamed possible. When a kid smiles and says thank you. All those things make you feel ten feet tall and leave you with the most wonderful memories and friends that last a life time.

Then there are days like today. They come rarely but when they do they really REALLY suck. Some times being in charge is very VERY lonely.

the thing that always got to me was that one kid who said, what are we going to do, huh, huh huh????????and you were right in the middle of something exciting like tying a bamboo tilly knot for fly fishing...

Commiserations. I was only ever an ASL but I can imagine the burden. Just remember the good days!
